They call me a maven, me

When I started this blog, 452 posts ago, I didn’t really know why I was doing it or what I would write about.
It turned out the blog took on a life of its own and eventually found its voice. I would jot down impressions of my new life in California, record some of my more interesting or revealing experiences and hopefully create something diverting to read along the way.
What I didn’t realise then is that blogs can spawn other blogs. If I have been neglecting this space a little lately it is because I have been recruited to write a blog and get paid for it (a concept my other half feels ambivalent about for some reason — that’s OK, I’ll keep the dosh for myself to keep him untainted).
So now I am a “Berkeley property maven” apparently and am having fun doing something I enjoy doing anyway — snooping around open houses on Sunday afternoons and keeping an eye out for the dream home that may one day be mine.

Tracey,
I LOVE your work on Redfin — you are a natural and I see a whole career and more built on sly but interesting looks at houses and how they reflect the community they’re in and the people who live in them.

Well I must admit you make real estate interesting. I love to go to open houses, too, so it’s fun to see the voyeurism taken to new professional heights. I am curious about 2 houses — the $3.8 million on Bridge and the one on Garber that has come for sale. And do these houses really sell for that much money?
Gosh, I guess I’ll have to bookmark two of your blogs now.

Paid to snoop around and tell tales. A dream job, eh?
