Rats for lunch

It’s possible that if I didn’t have children I wouldn’t even be aware that there’s a film called “Ratatouille” coming out today. But I don’t think so. I think it would have crossed my radar. I also think that if I knew it was made by Pixar I would want to see it.

I loved “Toy Story”, “Monsters Inc” and “The Incredibles”, “Cars” not so much. But still, the quality of animation, plot, characters and humour in these movies is very high.

Pixar brings a smidgen of Hollywood glamour to the East Bay. Yesterday my older son and I had lunch at a place next to the animators’ studios in Emeryville. A couple of young guys came into the restaurant and it turned out they were “Pixarites”. My son struck up conversation with one of them and asked him what the studio’s next movie would be.

Apparently it’s called Wallie* and is about a robot. He couldn’t tell us anymore, he said, injecting some mystery into the exchange.

Then he added we could watch the trailer online, which spoiled the moment somewhat.

* I’ve since discovered the movie is called “Wall-E” and we’ll be enduring the trailer for it at cinemas until this time next year.
