Governator does good shock
September 27th, 2006
Little did I imagine that just over a year after I moved to California I would become an Arnie fan.
And the truth is I haven’t — at least on most issues.
But credit where credit is due: the Governator has just taken two important steps in the right direction.
The first — an eventual ban on driving while using a mobile phone in California — will hopefull result in a few less deaths on the road (and reduced stress levels for those drivers among us who have to deal with the many dozy twits who do this.)
The second step is more far-reaching — a new law to cut global warming emissions by 25%. We’ve all seen “An Inconvenient Truth” (or if we haven’t we should — this is not a must-see movie, it’s an essential-to-see movie). We know this has to be done.
And now it seems someone in this fair state has decided the people behind the monster gas-guzzlers that contribute to the problem have to be held accountable. Last week, California sued six of the world’s largest car makers, including GM and Toyota, over global warming, charging that greenhouse gases from their vehicles have caused billions of dollars in damages.
Way to go. (Just a pity Arnie still seems to favour those gas guzzlers himself — see his admiring looks for the ghastly canary yellow Hummer above)
